Classes for Children
From Tots to Teens
Tiger Tots
Hanson Pilates support Surestart, Dedridge in this initiative for parent/carer and child. Tiger Tots is designed for tiny tots to pre-school. In the one hour session, we have fun with role play, music and exercise using small equipment.
The whole experience is aimed at stimulating personal and social development, alongside listening skills and physical activity.

Yoga Bees
Yoga Bees is a Yoga Education Program for Children. Classes are taught in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, which allows the children to feel confident to express themselves on physical, emotional, mental and creative levels.
The classes consist of yoga postures to help strength, flexibility, concentration, health and well being; rhymes, songs and puppets to complement physical activity; games to stimulate coordination, balance and movement skills; and relaxation time to lower stress levels and increase calmness. Partner Yoga may be used in some of the classes to develop sharing and cooperation.
The classes give opportunities that offer depth and challenge each individual on many levels, planting the seeds for a sustainable practice that can help to maintain strength, health and well being in those who take part.
All in all, the yoga classes are aimed to enhance innate qualities such as confidence, creativity, respect for self and others, motivation, awareness and compassion in children and teens!
We work with children and teens on five levels. These levels are; Busy Bees, Yoga Bees Nursery, Yoga Bees Primary, Adventure Yoga and Teen Yoga.

Busy Bees
Parent & Toddler - up to age 4
A forty minute activity session for parent and toddlers, suitable for little crawlers to pre-school. We have fun with rhymes, song and puppets, alongside physical exercise designed to stimulate co-ordination, balance and movement. Through the class, we learn sharing and co-operation, and by the end we have used up lots of energy!
Yoga Bees Nursery
Yoga Bees is aimed at pre-school and nursery children aged between 3 - 5 years. The classes are based around story telling with yoga postures weaved into the stories. This allows the creative imagination of the child to be brought to life in a class that feels like play. Themes common to learning in a pre-school environment such as shapes, colours, mini beasts and "people who help us" are woven into our fantastic adventures. Song and Dance can be incorporated into the stories to add further breadth to the practice.
Yoga Bees Primary
Ages 5-7 yrs, (P1 - P3)
Progressing from Yoga Bees at pre-school level, Yoga Bees Primary uses story telling as a vehicle for learning through play and for yoga practice. The story is delivered in a way more appropriate to the age of the child. Song, dance, literacy and numeracy can be used in warm up and cool down practices.

Adventure Yoga
Ages 8-12yrs, (P4-P7)
Adventure Yoga is aimed towards children aged 8 - 12. The classes tend to be more thematic or project based. For instance we may use yoga postures to create a 'round the world' adventure to enhance cultural and geographical awareness; or perhaps explore the elements through the yoga practice, to bring a little yogic philosophy into the class. Partner Yoga can be used in these classes for fun and working with others. This is the time where short, creative meditations may come in to play in the class with time for reflection and relaxation.

Teen Yoga
Age 13+
Teen Yoga is a wonderful practice for teens. Here we begin to move the classes more towards what may be experienced in an adult yoga class. This lessens the gap when a teenager decides to continue yoga in his/her own time.
More complex themes can be introduced that can help to develop deeper cultural awareness and self awareness, respect for others and the motivation to become a more responsible citizen. Partner Yoga and cooperation games may be used to enhance the ability to work with others, loosen up and have fun. Teen yoga is indispensable for teenagers to learn to relax and relieve stress for exams and the other pressures of life in these awkward years!
Hanson Yoga is becoming increasingly involved in working in partnership (Active Schools and Youth Sports Trust) to promote the benefits of yoga in the Fit for Girls initiative.

TESTIMONIALS
"The classes are fabulous, the children love them and I get lots of positive feedback from parents ".
Phyllis, Nursery Manager, Big Bird Nursery, Whitburn, West Lothian
Yoga has been a great addition to our extra curricular activity programme. It has developed the children's concentration, strength in their bodies and given them the ability to become more flexible and in tune with their bodies.
Within each group each child is treated as an individual and the programme is adapted to meet their needs.
Sheena, Nursery Manager, Bright Horizons, Edinburgh
What Yoga Bees Mean to Oakwell Nursery, Philpstoun, West Lothian
Yoga Bees is a fun way to stay healthy and fit; it covers many areas of the curriculum, not only physical development.
Physical development: Yoga Bees encourages using our bodies in different ways, learning new skills while keeping our body balanced. Taking part in Yoga Bees helps the children learn that health and fitness is important and during the class the children learn about space awareness too.
Communication and Language: during Yoga Bees the children listen and have fun with stories while following instructions on what poses to do. The staff give the children opportunity to predict and take part in short conversations in front of their friends.
Emotional, personal and social: the children develop confidence and good self-esteem, and the ability to persevere in moves they find difficult.
Expressive and aesthetic: Yoga Bees helps the children develop good imaginations and non-verbal role play. At times music is used to give the children a sense of rhythm too.
All in all, we love Yoga Bees; the teachers are friendly, calm, flexible and focused. We can't wait for the next session!
From all the staff and children at Oakwell Nursery.
